Optimal scheduling of Egyptian grid with pumped storage hydroelectric power plant

Egypt's national development plan aims at diversifying energy resources and expanding on renewable generation technologies. However, the Egyptian grid needs energy-storage components to stabilize its power supply when coupled with due intermittent random nature of them. The optimal expansion has been reached using a production costing software package electric analysis system (EGEAS). Although pumped storage hydroelectric plants (PSHPPs) have potential be constructed in Attaqa Mountain, Egypt, it not considered plan. This study proposes an scheduling grid, adding PSHPP as committed plant. First, mathematic formulation is presented. Then, reach goal economic dispatch, model established consideration both respective operation constraints load requirements. results EGEAS simulation module showed that for 20 years achieves net fuel cost saving 795 M$ calculated from without conditions domestic subsidized prices. More than double this saving, 7778 M$, could achieved if savings are international
